🏏 Happy Christmas
It wouldn’t be Christmas at the CC without the usual Christmas Day bartender on duty, none other than Club Chairman, Gareth McCarter. We don’t keep records but it is estimated Gareth has been doing this shift for almost 25 years give or take a year or two!
Gareth was extremely busy today serving Sambuca shots to the patrons in what is now the usual ACC Christmas Day tradition.
Thanks to everyone for their support for our Christmas draw. Congratulations to Steven Freshwater (aka Freshy) who won the star prize. A full list will be posted soon.
Special credit must also go to Paul Wilson (aka The DR) who ran the draw virtually single handed. We are totally indebted to the like of Paul and Gareth not just at this time of year but all year round.
Seasons Greetings from all at ACC.

🏏 100 Cap
A very special cap presentation recently as Norman Graham was able to deliver to George Breakey who couldn’t attend on the evening.
George played 126 games for the 1st XI, scoring 1350 runs with a high score of 91. Never bowled for the 1st XI which seems a travesty!

🏏 100 Cap
Another one of our cap presentations took place at the weekend as Alan Whitcroft received his cap (and a bottle of Quilmes) from Philip Doyle.
To date Alan has played 128 games for the club, just shy of a thousand runs and with 164 wickets at a very healthy average.

🏏 100 Cap
Another cap presentation from our list of centurions was made this morning when club chairman Gareth McCarter was able to meet with Marty McConville on the Mall to hand over his cap, which he was eager to get before heading to Adelaide this weekend!
Martin played 171 times for Armagh between 1969 and 1983, taking 146 wickets at an average of 13. Underused!

🏏 100 Cap
Great to see Norman up and about again after his recent operation and last week he was presenting one of our 100 club caps to Raymond Hill, son of the late Billy Hill.
Billy played 115 games for the club between 1946 and 1981. He had a high score of 76 and took one first team wicket!

🏏 In Remembrance
On this day we remember the 40th anniversary of the terrible murder of our player and club secretary John Martin.
Mr Martin owned what was then the petrol station overlooking the Mall and was shot four times by terrorists behind the counter on a Saturday night when closing the shop. Mr Martins 10 year old son was also behind the counter but thankfully was unharmed.
We hold the Martin family in our thoughts on this sad anniversary.

🏏 100 Cap
Last night at the pavilion we had our widely publicised 100 caps club presentation. This was to formally recognise the 54 players who have made 100 or more appearances for the 1st XI in the club’s history.
The night proved to be a great success as former players mingled with the current crop to recollect stories on and off the pitch in years gone by.
Given that some of the members of the “100 cap club” had passed away it was marvellous to see their representatives present to collect their special accolade. Representatives and former players traveled from England, Scotland and all parts of Northern Ireland such was the special significance of the evening.
👆 Back Row: (L to R) Mark Elliott (266), Alan Dundas (143) Gareth Robinson (130), Andrew Bratten (135), Mark Williamson (108), Kenny Edgar (110), Matthew Steenson (226) Front Row: (L to R) Alan Jones (106) , Reggie Stinson (596) Andrew Rennie (277) and Kenny Gordon (240).

🏏 In Remebrance
This morning at the Pavilion, the club rededicated a plaque underneath the clock in memory of our late President Billy Elliott who was murdered in 1975. Club Chairman Gareth McCarter, Past President Norman Graham and Club Treasurer Paul Wilson met the Elliott family with son Geoffrey, brother George and nephew Philip at the club.

🏏 Awards / Congratulations
Been tough to keep this a secret for a few weeks, but we are over the moon to announce that Samuel Wilson was awarded the SM Cricket Section One Player of the Year Award at last nights NCU annual dinner.
Samuel scored 567 runs for the 1st XI last season which is the eighth highest haul for a season in club history. To be recognised by players from other clubs makes the accolade more special and is reward for Samuels hard work on and off the field for Armagh CC. The highlight was undoubtedly his remarkable 151 against Derriaghy but there were three other excellent half centuries in there too.
Well done Samuel, all at ACC are very proud of you.

Charlie rolled back the years to produce a devastating spell of 6 wickets for 33 runs against Derriaghy on 15th May earlier this season. Form is temporary class is permanent! A glorious day on the Mall today and the 4th XI rounded off their season with a super win against Waringstown and sealed second place in NCU Junior League 8a, a good performance in just their second season back.
Unfortunately their final at the weekend didn’t go their way but credit to a very strong Derriaghy team on their double success in league and cup.

🏏 Sad News
The committee of Armagh Cricket Club were saddened to hear of the passing yesterday of Desmond Faulkner, better known to all as Dan.
Dan was a long standing friend, member, sponsor and supporter of the club, initially through his links with the RAF Association but it moved well beyond that and we were delighted to make him an Honorary Member just last year.
Our thoughts are with the extended Faulkner family circle at this difficult time.

🏏 Congratulations
A few days have passed since a quite sensational record-equalling performance from Samuel Wilson at Derriaghy on Sunday. Samuel scored 151 which equals the club record set by Matthew Steenson just a couple of years ago. Samuels epic innings contained 17 boundaries and 8 sixes and set the 1st XI up for an impressive win. The Armagh team score of 301-8 is the highest away score in the clubs history and just the seventh time the club has passed 300. Samuels partnership of exactly 200 with JJ Strydom is just the second in the clubs history.
Super Sam himself said ‘To achieve my first 100 in such an important win last Sunday was incredibly special, even more so as some of my family were there to see it. A moment i will not forget for a long time’ - bit of an understatement that!
Club chairman and teammate Gareth McCarter congratulated Wilson on his achievement when they returned to the Mall and stated ‘It was a special innings and result for Samuel and all the team but these things don’t happen by accident. Not many work harder on their game than Sammy and we are fortunate that not only is he brilliant in our team but that he is helping bring the next generation of Armagh players through at POWERCricket and our Summer Scheme’
Well done Sammy, a special achievement to remember and all at Armagh CC are incredibly proud of you.

Huge Congratulations to our under 15’s team that defeated Lisburn B last night on the mall by 23 runs. Batting first Armagh accumulated 135-6 in 20 overs thanks mainly to a 104 run opening partnership by Tom Nicholson (50) and Matthew Wilson (26). Well done to Tom on his highest score and first half century of his career!
In reply Lisburn could only muster 112-6 with Billy Wilson the pick of the bowlers taking 2-14 in his 4 over spell. He was ably supported by Matthew Wilson, Josh Stoops and Josh Wilson who all took one wicket each. Josh Ferguson was unlucky not to be in the wickets as well with an excellent 4 over burst.
The under 15’s still have a couple of games remaining in what has become a fine season for them in recent weeks. We look forward to welcoming Lurgan under 15’s to the mall next Wednesday.

An excellent win for our under 15’s last night against their Lurgan opponents. Batting first Armagh made 78-8 in their 20 overs, and then bowled the hosts out for 53 with 10 balls to spare. A very committed bowling attack backed up with some great fielding.
Huge praise must go to Reuben Finlay who took 4 wickets for 11 runs in his 4 overs, including a hat trick. A very special achievement in cricket. Well done to Reuben and the team.

50 Years ago today Hampton Ewart took 9 wickets for 10 runs v Portadown. What made this more crazy was that a catch was dropped off his bowling and the batsman was run out. Could have been 10 wickets for 9 runs. Immortalised by The Cricketer Magazine.
Thanks to Allan Ewart over on our twitter channel. What a story from one of our all time greats.

A fantastic win for the Under 13’s tonight against Lisburn on the mall. Batting first Lisburn posted 98-9 with Noah Archer claiming three wickets ably supported by Daisy Nicholson and Mia Taylor who took two each. In reply Armagh passed the total with only 6 balls to spare in an exciting finale. The run chase was mainly down to a magnificent 37 not out, which included a towering “six” from Josh Wilson who rescued his team after they had fallen behind the required run rate. A superb all round team effort that augurs well for the future. Well done everyone!

🏏 Sad News
Before todays 1st XI game on the Mall against Lurgan the umpires and players on both teams stood for a moments silence in memory of Gordon Bratten who sadly passed away yesterday.
Gordon played with distinction for Armagh and Coleraine for many years and was President of the club in 2005/06 when we hosted the ICC Trophy at the Mall. Our thoughts are with Sandra, Alison and Andrew at this time.
