🏏 Good Luck
Good luck to first XI vice captain, darts team hero, youth coach and all-round good guy Samuel Wilson as he heads off down under to spend his winter at Latrobe Cricket Club near Melbourne. Take care of him for us. We aren’t jealous at all!
A wonderful opportunity for Samuel to go out and improve his game in a different environment under the watchful eye of our great friend and former player Steven Freshwater. It’s been great to see him about at the club in the last few weeks.

🏏 Season In Review
As the curtain falls on the 2024 season, we thought we'd look back over the season at how each team did, as well as centuries and 5-fors throughout the senior teams.
1ST XI
The 1sts finished 2nd in a strange season in Section 1, where only Templepatrick showed consistency and rightfully were crowned champions. Given the injuries we had across the club at the start of the season, it was an encouraging finish. Some highlights include winning against eventual champions Templepatrick, a phenomenal run chase on the Mall against Ballymena (spearheaded by a remarkable innings from Quinny), and an excellent bowling performance away against Donacloney with Matty Wright to the fore. This season also allowed for some younger players to get more game time at 1st XI level, with the likes of Will Mann and Tom Nicholson among others acquitting themselves well when thrown into the mix.
2ND XI
Our 2nds had a tricky enough season. Struggling with injuries and unavailability, they managed to secure their JL3 status for next season. Highlights included an important win against Woodvale at home early in the season, thanks to William Dougan carrying his bat, and a crucial win at home against a good Lisburn side towards the end of the season, where everyone contributed in a satisfying team win. Skipper Phil Rodgers will hope everyone wraps themselves in cotton wool over the winter, ready for the 2025 season ahead.
3RD, 4TH and 5TH XI
These teams primarily exist to give plenty of opportunity for cricket for all within the club. All teams acquitted themselves well in finishing mid table in their respective leagues. Regardless of league position, what is important is that lots of junior players got to play more cricket and develop their skills alongside more experienced players. There were plenty of close and exciting games for these teams. Particular highlights include the 3rds last ball win on the Mall against Ards and Donaghadee, the 4ths winning a thriller at away at Downpatrick thanks to Ollie Trimble's heroics with the ball, and the 5ths recording their first competitive win against Victoria. All in all another satisfying season.
CENTURIES AND 5FORS
They were plenty of individual highlights to celebrate. On the batting front, we had four club centurions (unless I have missed any). In particular, Adam Wilson scored his first ever century against Ballymena for the 4th XI which was a special moment for him and the club. Well done Adam!
Bowling-wise, as you can see below, we had no less than 10 five wicket hauls across the senior teams this year. Four of these came from players who are under 18 (Noah Archer, Josh Wilson, Reuben Finlay and Sam Mason), who we are particularly pleased for. Congratulations fellas, well deserved!
Centuries:
Q Dreyer - 195* (Ballymena)
S Wilson - 101 (Lurgan)
A Wright - 115* (Templepartick IV)
A Wilson - (Ballymena III)
5 Wicket Hauls:
Q Dreyer 6-27 (Cregagh)
M Wright 6-43 (Donacloney)
M Hoey 5-32 (Drumaness)
W Mann 5-35 (Donacloney)
S McCall 5-46 (Belfast)
A Wright 5-37 (Ballymena II)
N Archer 5-35 (Derriaghy III)
R Finlay 5-11 (Templepatrick IV)
J Wilson 5-25 (BISC V)
S Mason 5 Wickets (Donacloney III)
THANKS
There are probably plenty who I will have missed, so forgive me for that. A couple of thanks are in order as we round off the season:
Thanks to our team captains who worked tirelessly to organise teams, drive, umpire, score and many other unseen ways in their busy lives. Without them there wouldn't be many games played.
Thanks to Paul and the team who look after the grounds on the Mall. They are volunteers who give up their time day and night to ensure that the wickets are prepared for every home game, that the grass is cut and rolled, and many other unseen tasks around the club which we often take for granted. It's often commented by visiting teams that the Mall is one of the most picturesque places to play in the NCU, and the grounds team ensures our surroundings add to that - so thank you!
Thanks to John Doyle and others who help provide and ensure teas for the 1st XI home games. They kept us all well fed and watered!
Thanks to the bar staff who kept spectators, members, players and visitors well watered, especially on busy days.
Thanks to our players sponsors, kit sponsors, ball and match sponsors throughout the season. It takes lots of money to keep an amateur cricket club going, and you have helped ensure that cricket is well resourced in Armagh.
Thanks to all our members and spectators who watched and encouraged all teams throughout the season. You shared in the highs and lows of this season, which we all really appreciate.
Thanks to the members of committee who help plan and organise each season. Thanks in particular to Club President Keith Wilson who organises much of the senior and junior cricket.
Thanks to all the players - for your commitment and enthusiasm for the game and the club, and representing the club well. Thanks as well to your families (parents, spouses, partners, children etc) who sacrifice to allow you to be out all Saturday!
So there you have it, another season away.
The season will be rounded off with our Senior Awards Night which will be announced in due course.

🏏 Thanks Quinny!
This morning we bid farewell to Quinny as he begins his journey home to Cape Town. We want to publicly thank him for all of his efforts this season as our pro. He has undoubtedly shown his quality as a cricketer with bat, ball and in the field - too many highlights and significant contributions to mention, the stats speak for themselves.
What's been more important is his impact off the pitch. His efforts in coaching throughout the club has been greatly appreciated. Even more than that, we've loved having him at the CC because he's friendly, approachable, loves a laugh, and treats everyone with respect. He shakes everyone's hand in the room, whoever they are, whether they be player, member, punter, visitor, opponent. He doesn't ignore the kids running around, and they loved him for that. He's a credit to his family, and we have loved having him in Armagh and representing our club.
Quinny, thank you. You'll always be an Armagh man to us. All the best for the season ahead, and you'll always be welcome back on the Mall.

Our 1st XI rounded off their season with a comfortable win over Cregagh in glorious sunshine on the Mall. Cregagh batted first, but were ultimately undone by devastating spells of bowling from Quinny (6-27), which we have come to expect from him. He was ably supported by the whole bowling attack with wickets from Doyle, Rogers, Woods and McCall. Special mention to young Josh Wilson who bowled well on his Section 1 debut. Armagh chased down Cregagh's total despite Hassard's three wickets. Rodgers (41) and Dreyer (31) ensuring the win. Thanks to Cregagh for travelling and enjoy the off season.
On Sunday, the 2nd XI travelled to Woodvale looking to finish the season strongly. The hosts reached 165 in their 30 overs. Matty Wilson was the pick of the Armagh attack (3-35). In reply, Armagh were in trouble at 10-4 early on. However, a captains knock and half century from Phil Rodgers (57) kept us in the game, forming key partnerships with Adam Wilson (24) and Adam Woods (25). Sadly, we fell short by 26 runs. Congratulations to Woodvale on their promotion.

🏏 1st XI Update
Hard to believe but another “Home” cricket season comes to an end at The Mall. A great way to finish as our First XI end with an easy 7 wicket win. Star of the show was our wonderful Professional Quintin Dreyer who took 6 wickets for 27 runs and also scored 31. Jamie Rogers also performed well with the bat adding a fluent 41 in Armagh’s run chase of 102. The game was played in wonderful sunshine that hasn’t always been around in the Summer of 2024…

🏏 Weekend Results
It was a mixed bag of results for the CC this Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday the 1st XI recorded a convincing win on the Mall against Drumaness Superkings. The visitors were bowled out for 101, with young Will Mann continuing his fine form with 4-32, while skipper Hoey chipped in with 3-18. The Armagh reply was fairly straightforward, despite familiar face Neil Gelston's 2-28. Sammy Wilson (25) laid the foundation before Quinny (45*) saw us home. Well done lads!
On the back pitch, the 4th XI entertained PSNI. Armagh's innings was anchored by Rueben Finlay (24). However, the visitors knocked off the runs with 5 overs to spare.
Bank Holiday Monday brought a double header for the mighty 5th XI against Victoria 4th XI. Match 1 brought the 5ths first win of the season, as they restricted the visitors to 78 all out. The Wilson brothers (Matty with 2-11 and Josh with 3-7) did the damage, before experienced heads Heatherington (21*) and Ricky Dobbs (50*) knocked off the runs quickly.
Match 2 was a different story! Armagh batted first, recovered from a difficult position to reach 118 from their 20 overs. Skipper Keith Wilson plundered 43, ably supported by a patient knock from Reuben Finlay (35*). Despite Armagh bowling well in their first 6 overs, an excellent 3rd wicket partnership between Mathew and Boomer took the game away from Armagh and they reached the target in the final over. Good effort lads, and thanks to Victoria for coming down to the Mall.

🏏 Junior Cricket Update
With the Junior Cricket season concluding for the Summer, all that remains is to recognise our U11s, U13s and Girls for their tremendous efforts and development this year.
Once again, Armagh Cricket Club Junior Sections saw an increase in numbers with over 40 children representing the various age groups and teams.
This year also saw history made with Armagh fielding its first Junior Girls team; whilst this inaugural year saw only 1 friendly match played, the foundations are laid to ensure plenty of more opportunities for our girls.
As for the season, results were as follows:
U11s: Played 5 games, won 1 and lost 4
U13s: Played 5 games, won 2 and lost 3
Juniors Girls: Played 1 game, lost 1
Whilst the results reflect a mix-bag, focus will always be on skills development and enjoyment; as such, both were in abundantly obvious in our boys and girls during the season, suggesting we are on the right track to supporting our youth.
With growing numbers and the inception of our Junior Girls section in mind…..exciting times lie ahead for Armagh Cricket Club that’s for sure and we look forward to Summer 2025.
All that is left is to share details and pictures from the Armagh Cricket Club Junior Cricket Awards for 2024.

🏏 Match Report
Armagh kept the NCU Section 1 title chase alive on Saturday (24th August), with a convincing win against Drumaness SuperKings that will also likely condemn the visitors to an immediate return back to Section 2. The hosts went into the game knowing that Templepatrick’s game with Belfast was already off due to the weather and that a win was essential to retain slim hopes of finishing first.
Armagh won the toss and elected to bowl first with the Mall looking remarkably well - despite the horrible recent weather… so much credit to the groundsteam on those efforts. The visitors started quite well with Pattnaik launching into a rare assault on Dreyer with some lovely shots played. The first wicket came when Cunningham was sent back after hitting it straight to Stuart McCall but couldn’t turn quickly enough and was run out with a good throw to McCarter.
Dreyer eventually got his man when Pattnaik hit a high catch that was very well held by William Mann. The younger Mann then entered the bowling with instant success as former Armagh player Gelston edged his second ball behind to the gloves of McCarter. The young Mann could do no wrong with three further wickets in quick succession with two smart catches from Dougan and his older brother Oliver helping him out.
Armagh captain Michael Hoey got into the act with a couple of wickets to clean up the tail - with more excellent Armagh fielding bringing catches to McCarter, the returning Harry Boyd and the last one to Harry Doyle who was unfortunate not to claim any wickets himself in a good opening spell. There was also a spectacular run out by Dreyer as Armagh capped off their best fielding effort of the year with seven catches and two runouts seeing Drumaness all out for 101.
One of cricket’s sillier rules is that with the speed Armagh bowled their visitors out it meant they were actually disadvantaged by having to go out to bat straight away without a break. The start was steady with Samuel Wilson and William Dougan looking to build an opening partnership and see off the new ball which they did comfortably.
The introduction of Gelstons spin caused more issues with both being removed quite quickly with Dreyer and McCall next up. Either side of the delayed tea interval they showed good judgement and patience with nice running between the wickets. Dreyer brought the game to a speedy conclusion when one of the visiting spinners proved to his liking and a flurry of boundaries took Armagh to the target with an unbeaten half century stand to boot, as Armagh won the game by eight wickets.
Armagh captain Michael Hoey was understandably delighted to beat the weather and the opposition with a much changed side but everyone who came in contributed well to a strong win that keeps the city side second in section one. This coming weekend Armagh travel to league leaders Templepatrick in a top of the table clash.

🏏 Match Report
Armagh enjoyed an excellent win in Saturdays Section One fixture at Donaghcloney Mill, moving the city side into second place in the table ahead of their opponents.
Armagh won the toss and elected to bat at a venue where a lot of runs have been scored in this 2024 season, but scoring looked much more difficult here with the hosts disciplined bowling not giving much away. Armagh’s top order didn’t make too many - with the notable exception of Quintin Dreyer, who looked to be batting on a different surface than anyone else with the fluency of his strokes and run-scoring all around the wicket as he passed another half-century. Support came from Matthew Steenson and then captain Michael Hoey but overall Armagh’s final total of 131 all out looked totally inadequate. Dreyer’s score of 76 out of 131 was a spectacular effort.
After a brief rain break at tea, Armagh took to the field with an early spring in their step when Matthew Wright cleaned up the prolific Warren with one that stayed low. All of a sudden Armagh were up and about with Dreyer causing all sorts of problems from the other end, bowling Kennedy with an amazing slower ball. Everyone knew the key wicket would be the Cloney Pro, the leagues top scorer Atish Varape - who, after looking very fluent early on, was picked by Wright and caught at cover by Dreyer, putting Armagh in charge. After that big wicket the total began to look a long way away off for the hosts, with only one other player making double figures due to the Armagh opening pair running riot. Armaghs fielding held up well with catches for McCarter and a cracking diving effort from Wilson at point. Fittingly Matthew Wright would take the final wicket to seal a six wicket haul and his career best figures of 6-43 as Donaghcloney Mill were skittled for 66 giving Armagh a 65 run victory.
Armagh captain Michael Hoey was delighted with the Armagh teams fight back (although less so with the batting performance that preceded it). He could only praise the efforts of Matthew Wright and Quintin Dreyer with the ball for firing the teams remarkable turnaround.

TODAY'S RESULTS…
It's been a superb day for the wee CC as we recorded two important wins.
The 1st XI batted first and scored an under-par 131. Only Quinny with a fluent 76 being the highlight of the innings. After the break, onlookers would have thought that this was a case of 'when' Donacloney would wrap things up, not 'if'. However, in a crazy 17.1 overs, the opening attack of Quinny (4-23) and Matty Wright (6-43) managed to dismiss Donacloney for 66. They were backed up by good fielding and holding our catches, and they received the rewards of their hard work in the field. Believe it or not, at the time of writing, Armagh find themselves in 2nd position in Section 1 - a crazy day! Thanks to Donacloney for hosting a remarkable game, and for their warm hospitality.
On the Mall, the 2nd XI took on Lisburn III who were looking to bolster their challenge for the JL3 title, while we needed a win to stay in the fight for survival. An tight bowling and fielding display restricted Lisburn to 148 from their 35 overs. The returning Callum Gibson took 3 wickets, well supported by Will Mann (2-17) and Mr Reliable Phil Rodgers (2-33). The chase started well with William Dougan (36) and Ollie Mann (23) scoring valuable runs. A slight mid-innings wobble made things interesting, but it was young Tom Nicholson (27*) who along with Ashley guided us home with an over to spare - reaching the target with a maximum. Well done lads! Thanks to Lisburn for travelling.

🏏 3rd XI Update
The Third XI’s season came to a close yesterday afternoon at Derriaghy, unfortunately with a 58 run loss. Batting first Derriaghy amassed a total of 209-8 with the hard hitting Paul Marshall plundering a magnificent 89. Noah Archer was the hero for Armagh taking his first senior 5 wicket haul with his left arm medium fast bowling, 5 for 34 his figures.
In reply Armagh went after a fairly formidable total but were dismissed for 151. Tom Nicholson starred with the bat and a career best 75, his third half century of the season. Well batted Tom.
It proved an important win for Derriaghy who find themselves in a relegation battle to remain in Junior League 6. Best of luck for that guys, we always like playing at Queensway.
The thirds currently reside in 2nd place in Junior League 6, unable to win the league. Their fate will be decided by other games but a top 3 position is guaranteed with a small chance of promotion.
Third XI skipper Keith Wilson, who was unavailable yesterday due to Holiday commitments, was quick to point out
“It has been a really strong season for the thirds, to be where we are in the league can only be viewed as a success. The club as a whole started the season with a lot of players unavailable due to injuries and other commitments.
As a result our young players, and there are way too many to mention individually, have come in and really stepped up to the mark! We as a club couldn’t have asked for better, and it is a tremendous testament to those hard working players themselves and the coaching staff. It all bodes well for the seasons ahead. “
For now we will leave you with a picture of yesterday’s Armagh stars Tom and Noah.

🏏 Weekend Results
A mixed weekend for our senior teams. The 2nd XI won an entertaining rearranged fixture on the Mall against Ballymena on Friday night. Ollie Mann (54) was the anchor for the home side which allowed Wright (58*) and Steenson (45) to score quickly. In repsonse, despite an excellent innings from McBurney and some big hitting from Scott, Armagh were able to defend their total, with Wright (5-37) and Woods (2-26) in the wickets. Thanks to Ballymena for travelling and for providing a great game for the spectators. Two games to go, and two must win games to give us a hope of survival in JL3.
Saturday saw the 1st XI lose out in the derby with Laurelvale. The Armagh innings never really got going, totalling 191 all out, despite a key partnership from Wright (54) and Steenson (33), and a quickfire 30 from Harry Doyle. An explosive start from the Laurelvale openers began to put the game out of reach of Armagh, with Malik in particular dispatching the ball to all parts. A superb bowling and fielding display after the drinks break gave Armagh a glimmer of hope, with Quinny (3-24) and Will Mann (2-44) taking key wickets. Sadly it was too little too late as Laurelvale composed themselves once more and reached the target with 4 wickets to spare.
The 1st XI redeemed themselves on Sunday however in a good win at home to Belfast. The away side were bowled out for 131 with Arnie Wright (4-43), Matty Wright (2-38) and Quinny (2-31) doing the damage. Armagh reached the target with 4 wickets down, and key contributions from Rogers and Steenson. Well done lads!
The 3rd XI were also in action on Sunday, losing out to Derriaghy. See the previous posts for details of the star men!

🏏 1st XI Weekend Report
It was mixed fortunes for the 1st XI this weekend.
Saturday 10th August
12.00pm - Armagh 1st XI play Laurelvale (A)
Sunday 11th August
1.00pm - Armagh 1st XI play Belfast (H)
Armagh suffered a disappointing defeat in Saturday’s game against Laurelvale before turning things around with a good win at home to basement side Belfast on Sunday.
At Mullavilly Road on Saturday Armagh elected to bat first and scored 192 in their innings. Aaron Wright was best with a half century supported by Dreyer, Steenson and Doyle. In response the hosts started well with Thornbury and Malik taking advantage. Armagh fought back with wickets for Dreyer and Mann though Speers played a good innings to help see his side home to a four wicket success.
On Sunday, Belfast unsurprisingly chose to bat first on what turned out to be a lovely afternoon on the Mall - but found themselves in trouble with early wickets for Matthew Wright and Dreyer. Armagh’s fielding came to the party with great catches taken by McCarter, Rogers and Doyle helping out the spinners. Belfast continued to attack and Armagh kept getting them out, with Aaron Wright finishing with four wickets as Belfast ended with 131 all out.
In response Armagh lost Wilson early on but Rogers and Dreyer built an impressive partnership to leave the hosts in a strong position before Rogers hit his wicket and Dreyer retired hurt. Steenson again looked in good form with some crisp boundaries before captain Hoey saw Armagh to a six wicket success with a flurry of boundaries through the off-side.
After a tough double header weekend Armagh find themselves in joint second place behind leaders Templepatrick.

🏏 Results
Just the three games this past week. On Wednesday night the 1st XI lost out to in their rearranged game. Armagh posted a competitive total with Arnie Wright (55) and Sammy Wilson (41) the mainstays of the innings. However, an onslaught from Adams and Glass meant that Armagh left Eaton Park empty handed.
Today however, Armagh responded with an excellent win on the Mall against Derriaghy. Despite Derriaghy getting off to a good start, a strong bowling performance restricted Derriaghy to 133 all out. All bowlers were in the wickets, but Quinny (4-15) and Wright (3-52) the main wicket takers. In response, Jamie Rogers (35*) provided the stable foundation for Quinny to complete a superb all round performance, plundering 92 off 58 balls to see the lads home. Well done lads!
On the back pitch, the 2nd XI were sadly well beaten by Bangor 2nds. Still 3 games to play in the relegation battle - all to play for!

🏏 U15s Update
Last night (23rd July) Armagh Under 15’s hosted Bangor Under 15’s at The Mall on an evening when the sun shone and it felt like Summer, sadly a rare occasion in 2024.
Armagh were inserted to bat on a lively strip and batted their 20 overs scoring 81 for 6. Runs were extremely hard to come by and the total only included one boundary - beautifully struck by skipper Josh Stoops.
It was the opening partnership of Josh Wilson (17) and Josh Stoops (11) that paved the way to achieving their total putting on 43 for the first wicket before both were dismissed within a few balls of each other. However they should both be commended on how maturely they batted in the conditions. Matthew Kerr also played well scoring 11 as he, like Wilson and Stoops, played to the conditions.
Bangor’s reply started poorly losing both openers to Wilson and Stoops as Armagh’s bowling was very much on fire. Stoops added another and an excellent Woods/ Jennett run out left the hosts firmly in the driving seat. Will Haynes continued his fine bowling form this season as he also bowled beautifully to take 3 wickets in an excellent spell of swing bowling.
A brief rally from Bangor’s lower order gave them hope but a Wilson run out and a Charlie Abbott wicket left Armagh on the verge of victory. Josh Wilson then returned to the attack and bowled Bangor’s last batsman to leave Armagh victorious by a fine margin of 19 runs to the delight of the players, coach and supporters.
Armagh’s bowling and fielding were simply fantastic and it proved the difference in a tight game that could’ve gone either way on the night.
While everyone played their part - special mention must go to Under 13 players, Oliver Jennett and Callum Lewis who stepped up to the mark at the last moment to cover those who were unavailable due to holidays and make their under 15 debut! Well done lads!

🏏 5th XI
Another narrow defeat for the valiant 5th XI losing out in the last over to a very strong and experienced Dungannon 1st XI.
Our 5th XI featured 5 of our under 15s, well done Jack, Josh, Ryan, Steive and Will.
Also brilliant to see a Dungannon Cricket Club team back playing on the Mall after a gap of goodness knows how many years. Good luck to them and to our former players Josh Ferguson, Andrew Newell, Jonny Malcomson and Henry Cross.

🏏 Weekend Results
There were two games played over the bank holiday weekend, with success in both!
The 2nd XI won an important game at home against CSNI IV. A disciplined bowling performance ensured our opponents were restricted to 87 all out. Matty Wilson and Adam Woods were the main wicket takers. We wasted little time in the response, despite the loss of three wickets. Adam Wilson top scored with 23. Well done lads! This Saturday sees another important match against Ballymena at home on the Mall, and all support would be appreciated.
On Sunday, our 4ths entertained BISC V and came out the victors. Four wickets from El Presidente Keith Wilson, along with 2 wickets for Josh Stoops gave us a good chance with the bat. An important contribution from Wright (39), set the foundation for another father-son winning partnership from Josh and Keith Wilson to see us home. The mighty 4ths go marching on!

🏏 Weekend Results
Four games this past weekend, in between the showers! Our 1st XI recorded a superb win in the Derby against Laurelvale. A disciplined bowling performance restricted the away side to 176 all out. Quinny (4-17), Matty Wright (2-54) and Arnie Wright (2-34) were the key men. In response, half centuries from Arnie Wright and Quinny laid the foundation for the ever-reliable Mick Villiers (26*) to see us over the line. Well done lads!
Our 2nds and 4ths were in action as well but sadly came out second best across their games. Some notable performances including the returning Stuart Lester with the bat (73), and a good bowling perfmance from Haynes (2-24), Finlay (2-33) and Club President Keith Wilson with super figures of 5-22. Well done auld hand!

🏏 U11s Update
With the mid-summer break upon us, hopes of a win before the holiday period were dashed as Armagh Cricket Club U11s lost out to Lisburn B by 27 runs (310 playing 283).
On track at the halfway stage of our bowling performance, the last few overs would see the game swing in favour of Lisburn B.
Once again, the team played very well with plenty of positives from their match play and all should be incredibly pleased with how they performed with bat and ball against a talented Lisburn side.
Congratulation to Lisburn B on their win and well done to our U11s; it is clear see the skills developing week-by-week and long may it continue.
Happy holidays everybody and look forward to resuming training at the end of July/start of August.

🏏 U15s Update
A big shout out to our under 15’s team who recorded an excellent victory over Lurgan yesterday evening at Pollock Park. Batting first Armagh amassed an excellent 166-2 in 20 overs. The innings was centred around Armagh’s opening pair of skipper Josh Stoops and Josh Wilson who shared an unbeaten opening partnership of 97 before Wilson retired on 50 not out from 31 balls faced. Stoops followed shortly after for 41 while Ryan Hetherington continued the openers good work as he plundered a quick fire 30 not out to highlight his recent good form, and leave the visitors firmly in the driving seat.
It was always going to be a hard task for the hosts and although Armagh did not make early inroads, Lurgan used the game as valuable batting practice to reach 72-5 in 19 overs. Wickets were shared between Daniel Beggs, Rory Lewis, Conor McGoldrick, Noah Archer and Steive Bernard. Will Haynes then steeped up to bowl the 20th and final over and took 4 wickets in 4 balls, all of which were bowled, to the delight of the Armagh players and supporters. Will is no stranger to Pollock Park as incredibly he also took a hat trick at the same venue last season. A superb team performance indeed.

🏏 Weekend Results
Our 1st XI had a crucial win against Templepatrick on Saturday. Despite a below-par batting performance, a superb effort with the ball ensured the win. Wickets were shared around, with Wright, Doyle and Hoey to the fore.
It was a similar tale for the 2nd XI, as a super bowling and fielding performance got then over the line in a tense game at Stormont. Well done lads!
Sadly the 3rds and 5ths lost their games this weekend. Special mention to Josh Wilson for his 5 wicket haul for the 5ths - a great achievement. Well done Josh!

🏏 U11s Update
Armagh Cricket Club U11s were on the wrong side of a great contest against Cliftonville Academy.
Having been put into bat, our U11s posted a credible 264 against a bowling attack containing a few quick bowlers. Unfortunately, this was not quite enough as the opposition finished on 271.
Forgetting that a 7 run defeat suggested a very close game against a strong team, the manner in which our U11s went about their game was impressive.
Whilst we held our own with the bat against some challenging bowling, it was the fielding (3 run-outs no less) and bowling which almost won it for us.
The loss will no doubt come as a disappointment to the team but they should all be incredibly proud of their performance last night.
Brilliant team performance, fantastic team spirit and plenty more to come…..well done to them all and congratulations to Cliftonville Academy.......wishing them good luck in the next round of the cup.

🏏 U13s Update
A busy week of youth fixtures started off with a defeat for our U13s against Derriaghy B on The Mall last night; having been put into bat, Derriaghy posted an impressive score of 169 for 2, seeing both openers score 50s.
In response, Armagh Cricket Club finished their innings on a credible 124 for 8 resulting in a 45 run defeat.
Whilst the losing margin suggests a heavy defeat, the game was in the balance until the loss of a few wickets at the wrong time; the team performed admirably against a strong Derriaghy team with plenty of positives to take away.
Whilst every member of team should be pleased with their contribution, it would be remiss not to call-out a few notable performances:
Zach Halligan (4 overs, 1 wicket for 13 runs)
Callum Lewis (direct hit run-out)
Charlie Abbott (23 runs off 14 balls)
Conor McGoldrick (29 runs off 24 balls)
Oliver Jennett (24 runs off 13 balls.....including 5 x 4s in one over!!)
Congratulations to Derriaghy Bs and all the best as they look to finish top of the league with a possible game against the winners of the Belfast Division.
Well played and bad luck to our U13s... we look forward to the next U13s game!!
Our next youth fixture sees our U11s playing Cliftonville Academy (Away) in the Cup this evening.....if you're at a loose end and fancy the drive up to BRA Playing Fields (Roughfort Road), why not join us to cheer on the team.....see you there!!

🏏 Weekend Results
A mixed set of results for Armagh this weekend. The 1st XI had a great win on the road to Drumaness, with important innings from Rogers (52), Dreyer (48), Villiers (47), Hoey (42) and Wilson (38). Skipper Hoey then rounded off a fine all-round performance by taking 5-32 as Drumaness were kept at arms reach. Thanks to them for hosting!
The 3rd XI were beaten in their cup game, despite 4 wickets and 31 runs from Agha, ably supported by Walbran (34). Sadly we couldn't get over the line, despite a valiant effort.
The 4th XI were involved in a thriller in their cup game against Enniskillen on Saturday. Wickets were shared around as we restricted them to 179 in their innings, with Stoops, Heatherington and father-son duo of Josh and Keith Wilson in on the wickets. In response, Ryan McCarter carried his bat (65*) to get us in touching distance but sadly we lost in the final over. Good effort lads!
The 4th XI had success on Sunday however, as they recorded a fine win against Bangor. It was once more the Wilson's in the form of Keith and Matty who were the pick of the bowlers in an excellent team performance. Key contributions from Adam Wilson, Tom Nicholson and Mark Elliott saw us home. Thanks to Bangor for hosting!

🏏 U11s Update
Despite a good performance from our U11s against Waringstown, we came out on the wrong side of a 26 run defeat.
Posting 295 for 7, Armagh Cricket Club finished on 269 for 5.
The U11s should be very pleased with their efforts and certainly, a lot of positives to take away.
Well played to Waringstown CC and well done to all involved; we look forward to our next game in the Cup against Cliftonville Academy (25th June - Away)

🏏 Weekend Results
Sadly it was a losing weekend for both teams. Our 1st XI managed to dismiss Donacloney for 200 after they got off to a good start. A maiden 1st XI 5 wicket haul for Will Mann, and two key spells from Laing and Doyle being the highlights. Sammy Wilson (44) and Jamie Rogers (33) got us off to a good start, but the introduction of Bingham and Varape changed the course of the game. Bingham took a hat-trick in his first over, as he and Varape ended with 4 wickets a piece before the rain came and finished the game off, with Armagh well behind the rate.
Our 2nd XI lost out on Sunday on the road to BISC II. Wickets were shared around in the first innings, while Ollie Trimble provided some late resistance on the batting front. A week's break before Phil Rodgers' men can respond.

🏏Congratulations
While the result did not go our way today, this Mann deserves a special mention on his birthday!
Will Mann, the youngest of the Mann brothers, took his maiden 1st XI 5-for today against Donacloney Mill. Just missing out last week, Will made sure this week taking 5-35, including the wickets of Kennedy and the in-form Warren. Will is a naturally gifted swing bowler who has really come into his own in the last couple of seasons. He was involved in Ulster Schools games last year, and is continuing developing his cricketing skills while at Stirling for Uni. We are delighted to see and support his development. Congrats Will - some birthday that!

🏏 U13s Update
In an entertaining game on The Mall this evening, Armagh Cricket Club U13 secured a good victory against a competitive Donaghcloney side. Whilst this was a good team performance, a 5 wicket haul for Conor McGoldrick followed by a blistering 50 off 31 balls from Daniel Beggs were the foundations for a well-earned victory.
A big well done to them and the team......we look forward to the next game.

Our 1st XI lost today on the road to Cregagh. Batting first, Cregagh posted 299 from their 50 overs, thanks mainly to Ravikrishnan's 97. Bowling wise, the impressive Will Mann took 4-27, while Quinny opened well, finishing with 3-35. In reply, Quinny continued his fine form with a sublime 98. When Quinny was dismissed, it was the ever reliable Mick Villiers who took responsibility and kept us in the game with a classy 71. Sadly, Cregagh's Boultwood took 5 wickets in an excellent spell, and we were all out for 250. A great game that we came out the wrong side of. Thanks to Cregagh for hosting!
Our 2nd XI were well beaten at home by BISC II. Onto next week men!
The 3rd XI provided the only win of the day with a convincing 47 run win over Templepatrick 3rds. Heatherington and McCarter were the main contributers with the bat, while Sam Mason and Ricky Dobbs with 3 wickets each ensured Templepatrick were kept at arms length. Well done lads!

NCU star of the week is Quintin Dreyer for his majestic 195* against Ballymen.

🏏Midweek Results
Our 1st XI won their two night game at home to Lurgan. Sammy Wilson's superb 101 and Harry Doyle's timely 63 were the backbone of Armaghs total of 254. Lurgan's pro Els (44) and Jack Harrison (63) ensured Lurgan were always in the game. However, good bowling from Matty Wright (2-35) and Quinny (2-45), backed up by tight fielding resulting in two run outs, and the sharp glove work of Tom Nicholson in his first time keeping for the 1st XI (3 catches), ensured we came out with the win. Well done lads!
Our 5th XI were on the road at the recently re-formed Dungannon. Sadly, we were on the wrong end of a tight game. The returning Simon Cardwell was the bright spark (25) of our total of 82. Dungannon were made to work for their win, with Josh Stoops (3-6) and Cardwell (2-21) in the wickets. Sadly, they chased the total with two balls and two wickets to spare. We look forward to welcoming Dungannon to the Mall later in the season!

🏏 U11s Update
On a night when Armagh Cricket Club 1st team win a closely fought contest on The Mall, our very own U11s were securing a well earned victory against Donaghcloney.

🏏 Congratulations
A great night on the Mall for Sammy Wilson, as he scored a quality century for the 1st XI. Characteristically positive in his batting, his score of 101 provided the foundation for our final total of 254. Well done Sammy, many more to come!

🏏 U13 Girls Update
Coming up against a well trained Waringstown Girls team, there was no fairytale beginning for Armagh Cricket Club’s U13s Girls as the match ended in defeat.
In an entertaining game, some good cricket was played with Waringstown's batting proving to be the difference between the two sides.
Whilst the desired result wasn’t to be, our U13s Girls team acquitted themselves very well and, with plenty of positive performances to work on, the future of Armagh Cricket Club’s Girls team looks promising.
Well done to all the girls and here’s working towards our first win.

🏏 Best Wishes
All at Armagh Cricket Club would like to wish all the very best to Alan Whitcroft and his family as they set off for their new life in Australia.
Alan has been a part of the furniture at The Mall since his days in junior cricket until now (despite the occasional loan to Coleraine Cricket Club - but a return was always on the cards. It might be harder to tempt him back in future).
A hugely skilful all-rounder, Alan finishes his Armagh career with just over 1000 runs, 15th on the all time list with 188 wickets and 33rd all time with 145 appearances for the 1st XI, never mind a list of wonderful memories of great matches and even better wicket celebrations.
As a friend and a teammate he will undoubtedly be missed but an incredible opportunity lies ahead for Alan, Eimear and their kids Leo, Fred and Ellen. We can only wish them well.

Last Week’s Results
Plenty of matches played last week across all senior teams at the club.
1st XI
The 1sts lost out on the road to Belfast in their T20 trophy match on Friday night. Despite runs from Sammy Wilson and Jamie Rogers, we couldn't quite get over the line.
Sunday afternoon was a different story, as we beat Ballymena in a game that will live long in the memory. Ballymena batted first and scored 284, with a superb century from John Glass, well supported by Glen Adams. Ben Mackey in the wickets with 4-41 from his overs. Armagh's innings was dominated by Quintin Dreyer's magnificent 195* (see previous post for more details), and he was ably supported by Braydon Laing (45) as we reached the total with 3 wickets left and 7 overs to spare. A great win in front of an exuberant home crowd!
2nd XI
Phil Rodgers' men were on the road on Saturday to Wallace Park for a 6pm start, and never really got going in their innings, with Lisburn chasing the total with an over to spare. We'll dust ourselves off and move onto next week!
3rd XI
Our 3rds were beaten by CI 4ths on Tuesday evening. despite Keith Wilson's 21*, CI chased down the total to win by 6 wickets.
They were also in action on Sunday with a double header against Ards & Donaghadee 2nds. The 3rds came out on top by 5 wickets in the first game. However, in a tight second game, the away team won by 3 wickets.
4th XI
The 4th XI were victorious at home on bank holiday Monday as they beat Ballymena 3rds by 35 runs. Top score for the 4ths was a half-century from Tom Nicholson, bringing it up with a 6 off the last ball of the innings. Well done Tom, and well done lads!
5th XI
Last, but not least, our newly-formed 5th XI took on Cliftonville Academy 5ths in the Development Cup on Saturday. Bowling first, wickets from Ben Gardiner, Joshua Wilson, Ollie Trimble and Sam Mason restricted the opposition to 136. While it was the youngsters who did the damage with the ball, it was the more 'experienced' gents who steered us home to win by 6 wickets, with club President Keith Wilson finishing on 53*. Great win, into the hat for the next round!
3rd June 2024
🏏 Quinny
After the dust has settled on yesterday's game, it's only right that we talk about our Quinny!
Quinny scored a massive 195 not out (off just 119 balls) on the glorious Mall in yesterday's win against Ballymena. In one of the most remarkable innings ever seen on the Mall, Quinny brought up his 50 off 59 balls in patient fashion, before shifting through the gears, with the remaining 145 runs coming off 60 balls, including 14x4's and a whopping 13x6's. Forming a key partnership Laing, Quinny then saw us home in spectacular fashion, finishing the game of with a 6 to the delight of the Armagh faithful!
We're still waiting on word on where this ranks in terms of the highest individual scores in 1st XI and club history, but all who witnessed it were in agreement it's one of the best innings they've seen - sensational has even been used on numerous occasions overnight!
And ever the modest man, Quinny said he was just happy with the win. Congratulations on a superb individual performance, Quinny!

🏏 300 Not Out
Pictured is Gareth McCarter who made his 300th appearance for our 1st XI in our T20 group game against Donacloney Mill Cricket Club. Quite an achievement and countless years of dedication.
In the 165 year history of Armagh Cricket Club, Gareth is just the fifth player to play 300 senior games for the club. He joins the elite club that includes Reggie Stinson, David Bullick, George Elliott and Robert McKinley
Gareth also holds the record for most consecutive appearances (112) and has the most recorded wicket-keeping dismissals (265).
Still a bit life in the old dog yet…

🏏 Weekend Results
A mixed weekend for our senior squads, with the 1st XI beaten in their two games, while our 2nd XI were beaten in the cup by Donacloney. The highlight was Sam Karlsen's maiden half century for the club - well done Sam!
There were victories however for the 3rds and 4ths this weekend! The 3rds beat Donacloney 3rds on Saturday. It was the young lads who led the way, with Sam Mason taking a 5-for, and Reuben Finlay providing support with 4 wickets to secure the win. Well done Sam and Reuben!
Today the 4ths won a tight game by 1 run at the Meadow against Downpatrick 3rds. An excellent 55* by Adam Wilson laid the foundations for a competitive total. Although Downpatrick put themselves in a winning position with the bat, the 4th XI bowling attack clawed their way back into the game, with Ollie Trimble (3-15), Matty Wilson (2-21) and the miserly Ricky Dobbs (2-16) leading the way. Needing 9 off the last over, Ollie Trimble kept his cool to ensure the CC won by 1 run. Well done lads!

Today saw our 1st XI squad take on Cregagh in the Challenge Cup. Sadly it wasn't to be for Armagh today, even though Laing, Woods and Dougan were in the runs, it sadly wasn't enough. Cregagh chased down the total in 28.2 overs. This wasn't without resistance from a young Armagh side, with Woods (2-46) and young Matty Wilson (3-25) bowling excellently to make Cregagh work hard for their win. Congratulations to Cregagh on their win and all the best in the next round.
Congratulations are also in order for TWO debutants today - Josh Wilson at 14 and Gary Archer at 46! Particular mention to Josh who bowled well in tandem with big brother Matty - a proud day for the Wilson household!!

Congratulations to Stuart McCall on taking his maiden 1st XI 5 wicket haul today!
Stuart is a proud clubman who has played at all levels of cricket at Armagh from no age. There's not many who play with more pride in the badge than Stuart, so we're proud of him as a club, and delighted for him as he receives the reward of all his hard work.

Our 1st XI came away with a good win on the road against Belfast CC. The returning Michael Villiers top scored with 60, ably supported by Sammy Wilson (46), Stuart McCall (38) and Harry Doyle (30), finishing on 264 from their 50 overs. In reply Belfast made the Armagh bowlers earn their wickets, with Saeed and Shahid leading the chase. With the momentum swinging either way, it was good Armagh fielding and bowling that ensured Belfast were bowled out for 229 with a few overs to go. Mackey with 2, Doyle with 3 and McCall (completing a top all round performance) with 5 wickets at key moments to ensure the 1st XI got off to a winning start to the league season.
At the Mall, our 2nd XI lost out to Carrick II by 5 wickets. Runs from Ami Mandrekar (49) and William Dougan (36) were the highlights of Armagh's innings. While skipper Phil Rodgers took 3 wickets in his bowling spell, Carrick reached the target with a couple of overs to spare. Onto the next one lads!

A big birthday milestone to celebrate today as former club President Norman Graham turns 85.
Norman recently informed the club that he would be stepping aside from ground convenor responsibilities at his landmark birthday.
To mark his huge contribution to the club over a number of years club chairman Gareth McCarter and club PRO Harry Doyle called over with Norman on Friday with a small present of commemorative glass. Nellie the dog wanted to get involved too!

🏏 Best Wishes & Tribute
Everyone at Armagh Cricket Club would like to pay tribute to club legend David Bullick who has recently transferred to Cregagh to play closer to home and with his children.
David explained - “It’s been a good 40 years playing for Armagh and a lot of fun along the way from the u15 and the 4ths up to the firsts and back to the 4 the again more recently.”
“I’ve loved it all and the friendships I’ve made - the best of luck for all teams this season and I will still be looking out for the Armagh results first. This move will give me the possibility to play with my son and possibly daughter.”
Club President Keith Wilson amongst other tributes stated that “Bunky stands tall amongst the legends at Armagh CC, playing across five decades for all teams as an all-rounder of the highest quality. It’s hard to imagine him not playing for Armagh but the move is understandable in the circumstances. We wish him all the best.”
In the history of Armagh Cricket Club, David Bullick lies second in all-time appearances on 368, of currently only four to have played over 300 games for the 1st XI. He is 10th in wickets with 275 and 3rd in runs with 6407.
Coincidentally, the recent picture is from David’s last ever game for Armagh CC played at Cregagh Cricket Club where characteristically he took a catch in the gully (how many times did that happen over the years!) to seal Matthew Wilsons hat-trick. “My first 50 for the firsts was against Cregagh, my last match for 1sts was against Cregagh and my last game for Armagh was against Cregagh so it’s only fitting that I now join them!”
“I suppose most memorable matches - beating Woodvale in the cup - beating Waringstown in the league and always enjoyed playing laurelvale and Derriaghy in particular. Winning the Junior cup for Armagh (also pictured) was also a special day that’ll live long in the memory. Lots of great memories of games played, won and lost and friendships made from Armagh and beyond.”

The Officers and Members of the club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former player Trevor Williamson. Trevor played for many years for the second and third XI’s as a wicket keeper and after his playing days were over he became a highly respected Umpire in local circles. Trevor and his wife Pamela were also great supporters of our club off the field of play. Deepest condolences are extended to Pamela, daughters Caroline and Gillian and the entire family circle at this difficult time. Trevor was quite simply one of nature’s Gentlemen.

Incredibly, Today marks the sixth anniversary of the untimely passing or our dear friend, highly respected player and committee member Andrew Walbran.
Andrew epitomised all that was good about the game of cricket. We as a club were blessed to have him in our ranks, from his days as a stylish 1st XI batsman to his days as an extremely successful and shrewd 2nd XI swing bowler, captain and youth coach.
Andrew was a class act to anyone who knew him and were lucky enough to have played cricket with him. He would be in his element to see how our youth programme continues to develop. We continue to remember him with great fondness and think of all the many good times in his company. Always remembered never forgotten.
