Villiers And The Villains

Villiers and the Villains: A Melodic Tapestry of Blues-Infused Country Folk Americana…

In the heart of musical diversity, where blues, country, folk, and Americana converge, there exists a band that paints a melodic tapestry of soul-stirring tunes - Villiers and the Villains. Led by the enigmatic Tony Villiers, this collective of seasoned musicians has carved a niche for themselves in the vibrant world of roots music.

Tony Villiers, the band's frontman, possesses a voice that echoes the gravelly authenticity of Bob Dylan, the heartfelt lyricism of Van Morrison, and the timeless charm of Willie Nelson. With a knack for storytelling through song, Tony's compositions are a journey through the dusty roads of Americana, exploring the complexities of life, love, and the human experience.

The band's sound is a finely tuned fusion of blues, country, and folk, creating a musical landscape that is both evocative and timeless. Their performances resonate with the soulful echoes of Delta blues, the twang of country guitars, and the poetic introspection of folk ballads. Each note played by Villiers and the Villains is a testament to their deep-rooted passion for the rich musical traditions that have shaped American culture.

As they take the stage, audiences are transported to a bygone era where storytelling was an art form and music served as a mirror reflecting the human condition. The authenticity of their sound captures the essence of classic Americana, while also infusing a contemporary spirit that resonates with listeners of all ages.

Villiers and the Villains have become a fixture in the Northern Irish live music scene, captivating audiences with their dynamic performances and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who encounter their music, otherwise known as the Villains and Villainettes. In an industry often characterised by trends and fleeting moments, this band stands as a testament to the enduring power of genuine, soulful expression.

For fans of blues, country, and folk music, Villiers and the Villains offer a musical journey that transcends genres, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the timeless magic of roots music. As they continue to weave their sonic tales, Tony Villiers and his bandmates are sure to leave an indelible mark on the ever-evolving landscape of blues infused, country-folk music.

Armagh City Radio

Website | Facebook

Armagh City Radio was the 2019 brainchild of one Armagh City radio producer and presenter - with a vision to build a station for one of the only cities in Europe not to have one. The station was initially planned and designed as a completely automated broadcast service with the tagline 'The Music Of Your Life' pointing mainly towards the chart artists and music that you would have grown up with.

Alongside the development of the station came one of the world's greatest pandemics in 2020 - causing a slight delay in relation to resources and development, however, testing did eventually begin and it was during this period that other seasoned radio presenters would show a desire to become involved to present various 'live' shows on the finished product. This would have the consequence of turning one mans potential hobby into a larger plan.

A music library was formed, a station jingle package was created, a website designed and a playout software system was selected and populated. Many phone calls were made, lots of fiddling was fiddled with the sound processing and a lot of late nights requiring a lot caffeine would continue along with all the other background work until the end of January 2021.

Testing was completed during the second week in February 2021, by then, Jimmy Leavy would be joined by fellow presenters Francie Quinn, Brian James, James Black, Marty Conor. Final touches were completed with the initial plan being one 'live' show each evening.

At 7:03pm local time on Friday the 19th February 2021 Armagh City Radio commenced 'live' broadcasting with Jimmy Leavy playing 'Henry Lee Summer - Hands On The Radio'. On that first evening Jimmy would be followed live on-air by Marty Conor and then Francie Quinn.

Since that initial broadcast the presenter line-up has increased with the addition of presenters JP McCusker, Hedley Maginnis, Fabian Murphy, Mark Stafford, Gill Hardiker, and Davy Simms. 'Live' shows currently air every weekday evening from 8.00pm, with 2 shows per evening. Weekend broadcasting begins at 9.00am and continues until Midnight (GMT).

With many genre's and styles being catered for, the station music library is constantly updated focusing on the best of today and yesterday's greatest hits, accompanied by forgotten favourites and curated album tracks making up 'The Music Of Your Life'.
